If you can believe it,
Some of the posts in this journal are Friends-Locked!  (gasp!)

*** Insert fancy "Friends-Only" banner here. ***

Public posts will most likely be:
 - Finished fanarts
 - Fandom-related thoughts
 - Various meaningless memes and quizzes
 - Irrelevant opinions
 - Craft projects

Meanwhile...

F-Locked posts may contain any or all of the following:

- Complaints about RL
 - Non-fandom art
 - Lists of unfinished projects
 - Banal squeeing over random shit
 - Anxiety-laden, self-indulgent, emo-esque cries for attention
 - And more!

You see now what horrors I subject my "friends" to?

So...if you're still tempted, go ahead and friend me and then comment here.  If I recognize you from somewhere and your journal doesn't hurt my eyes, I'll add you to my pool of victims F-list.
It's just that easy!

Have a wonderful day!

Alpha Dog was quite haunting
Alright...

I know I haven't posted anything in a while. I'm still a little overwhelmed with moving and Christmas...not making much progress at either.  The stress has made me into a real pill lately.

I'm also working on some fanarts, but they aren't coming out very well. I know I just have to keep practicing, practicing, practicing... I need to keep drawing anything I can until it feels more natural. I have to make sure I set aside time for it.

*sigh*

Anyway...

I watched Alpha Dog a couple of weeks ago. It stars Emile Hirsch (of course), Justin Timberlake, Ben Foster and many others.
It's based on a true story about the youngest guy to end up on the FBI's Most Wanted list. The names have all been changed, but supposedly everything else in the movie is pretty much how it really happened.
It was a very dark movie, but it was also very good.

spoilers and stuff )

That was the third Emile Hirsch movie on my list. Luckily, he's young and hasn't been in very many things so it won't take me too long to get through them all.
Into the Wild
was in my mailbox when I got home today, so I'll watch that soon.

OK... has anyone else NOT been getting email comment notices from LJ? Or at least getting them anywhere from 3 to 24 hours later? Is there some setting I need to change to fix that?

I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving!

Ummm...The Mudge Boy was weird.
Ok, I just finished watching The Mudge Boy, starring Emile Hirsch.

I'm not sure what to think about it, but I believe I'm a little disturbed.

complete spoilers for the whole thing )

And yet somehow it was a pretty good movie.    I'm totally confused.

Has anyone else seen this movie?

So I kind of got suckered into knitting a couple of pairs of socks.

I've never knitted a pair of socks before so this is kind of cool.  I've knitted single socks, but no pairs.  Second-Sock- Syndrome...I've got it bad.

But not this time!!!  Mwahahahaha!

a picture and details )

And as background noise I've been watching The Karate Kid trilogy on Hulu...what has become of me?!

BTW:  I won't be able to read another knitting blog without thinking about that crazy lady who starved her step-daughter.  So creepy!

Imagine a world without Star Trek. Is it a world you'd be very happy to live in, or a dark and terrible place?

Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that I probably wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Star Trek, as it's the only thing I can think of that my parents EVER had in common.

The RAM arrived in the mail today. Humidity is around 65%. Files are all backed up. I'm going to try to install it now.

I've never done it before, but the videos on youtube make it look easy.

If I disappear for a while, it means I am an idiot and broke my computer and I'm on the Desktop Dinosaur trying to order a new one.

Nervous! >_<"

Update: It is now 30 minutes later and it seems to be working. Hooray!

It really was just as easy as it looked. I took out one 512MB stick and put in 2 x 1GB sticks in there.

I don't notice any super-amazing difference in performance, but I'm only on the internet...nothing else is running. It did start up faster, though.

What I also don't notice is any wisps of smoke, horrible noises or burning smell...so that's good. Hope it stays that way.

I wonder if I'll be able to play some games, now. :D

ALSO: I changed my layout as a little celebration for my 'puter's upgrade. The Homura header is kind of a rush job, but I think it's he's pretty anyway.   If I'm not too lazy, maybe I'll try to make a better one at some point.

And I still can't decide if this new layout hurts my eyes.  The font is way too big!   D:

Saiyuki found me...even while I was away from LJ!

OK...it's not really Saiyuki, but it's related enough to make me happy...

I finally got around to buying and reading American Born Chinese, a graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang.
It's probably meant for a young adult audience, but I enjoyed it immensely.   It's made of basically three separate stories that come together at the end, one of which is about the Monkey King. The actual Journey to the West is not in this story, but it is important to it.

This post is cut only for length, big images, and general f-list disinterest.
There are no spoilers for the book in here...only for the story of the Monkey King  (just in case you somehow know about my LJ, yet don't know who that is.)

Anyway...

Here we go! ).

1. Comment on this post.
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters whose name starts with that letter and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ.

I drew this picture of Toki and Nathan months ago, but only colored it in yesterday.

lameness ahoy )

No, it's not Saiyuki, but I still think Nathan's pretty hot.

OK, OK...it's mostly his voice.  :D

Two examples:
- Murmaider by Dethklok from the Dethalbum (5MB) - a song about murdering mermaids (with artistic use of whale sounds).
- Nathan reads Hamlet (poorly) for 20 minutes (16MB)...Long, but very funny.

I colored in another manga panel.   It's kind of addictive.   This time it's Gojyo.

I saw Burn After Reading last night. It was very funny...the whole theater was laughing. But it's not one of those movies that needs to be watched over and over like The Big Lebowski or The Hudsucker Proxy.  Even though it was a really fun movie, I think I could have waited for it to be on DVD.

I am such a sucker for memes.

I was tagged by [info]mokona13 to do this handwriting meme.   And so now I pass it on to you...

Write:

1. Your name/username.
2. Left-handed or right-handed?
3. Favourite letters to write?
4. Least favourite letters to write?
5. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
6. Tag 6 people.

As expected, the second one was much faster.  Partly because I figured out the settings on this program, partly because I cleaned the line drawing properly, and mostly because I used a much bigger image. :D

Again, inspired and encouraged by [info]mokona13 .  ^_^

...Anyway.
The regular fanart piece that I've been working on (for over a week, now!) is really giving me troubles.

Besides figuring out the tangle of arms and legs, it just doesn't know what it wants to be. It started out as kind of a cracky joke, then it started to get kind of more solemn and tender, and now it's gotten rather dark and violent.  These things just have a life of their own, I guess.

But I'm rubbing a hole through the paper erasing things over and over.    I just hope I'll do it justice when it's ready for color (probably by hand).   It will be such a relief when it finally leaves the nest.
